Bright Lights, Big City
Today Harper and I went to Salt Lake City. Nbd. Except that it was! We’ve been in the Park City bubble for almost 12 months and have not yet ventured into the city until today (with the exception of airport visits).
We were called to Target because 1.) ski season is over and it is Saturday and we don’t know what to do with ourselves and 2.) a friend had a bday request and the only way we could secure said pressie in time was to go in person to Target. And we had to pass a Target (maybe two) to get to the Target that had the thing. That is how much time we now have on our hands!
Back to the city. Target was amazing. The Target’s in DC are so picked over, you cannot go with a list, it’s better to go with the mindset of “let’s go see what they have at Target today!” Let me tell you that we struck Target gold today my friends. It was glorious. And exhausting. I’ve fallen out of (in person) shopping shape. So many things. So many lights. Other people. Masks. It was a lot. And at the same time, I felt like cave men must have felt bringing food to the cave. Not only did we secure the coveted pressie, but also baby wipes (the good ones in surplus of course!), PLUS a bucket of sidewalk chalk WITH accessories! AND a monster truck launch pad and SUMMER CIOTHES (that were CHEAP!!! SO GOOD AND SO CHEAP!!). Thank you, dear Lord, for Target.
Then I mapped out the nearest department store because I needed to replenish a couple of cosmetics. We parked in a parking garage that WAZE kindly guided us to, then parked RIGHT NEXT TO THE DOOR TO THE STORE. Folks, this kind of thing simply didn’t happen to me in DC. My luck today was not lost on me! We took the elevator to the cosmetic case and holy moly!!!!!! All the things! So many nice things! We were rendered silent. Like some crazed mountain folk seeing civilization for the first time and wondering into this glorious Nordstrom. That is exactly who we were. I accidentally got all the cosmetics. As the sales lady was ringing up the order, I noticed she had fashioned her eye make up in a leopard print. And my crazy mountain lady self was dazed. When she caught me starring I had to comment on how remarkable her make-up was, no sense keeping it to myself. Which inspired the complete verbal tutorial on how- to create my own leopard spot eye lids. It was so amazing. My shopping comrade was growing quiet, which meant this brave new pilgrimage had rendered her tired. I had one final request. Could we pretty please simply peek to see what other stores exists on the outside of our current nirvana, just to look?! We walked outside, which was this cool half inside and half outside courtyard thing. Just as I began to welcome the fresh air my eyes quickly became fixated. Louis Vuitton!? Right there in SLC? NO WAY!!!!!! Glorious luxury high fashion…!! I was so comforted to know it was there! I was taken back with my excitement. I was so enraptured with all the busy shoppers toting their finds, their large bags, their perfume lingering once they’d long passed. This entire big city experience (and my reaction to it) made me realize that no matter how much I feel as though I’m “evolving,” I shamelessly LOVE this glorious consumer life! I’ve been spending all this time enjoying the mountains, I’d forgotten how much I enjoy retail therapy too! It felt damn good to be in the big city. And it felt damn good to drive up the mountains home again.
Our shops open tomorrow – along w/ resto terraces – & Im champing at the bit. Cant wait to go buy stuff. And consume stuff outside of my dining room. Am only moderately ashamed at admitting it. But damn, no Target!
